The final week: drills, mock, exam day

Lesson 4 of 4 in Troubleshooting GenAI — and Exam Readiness.

The final week is consolidation, not acquisition — retrieval practice, pacing, calibration. The pacing math first, because it shapes everything: 75 questions in 180 minutes is 2.4 minutes per question; Professional stems are long, so plan ~2 minutes each and bank a half-hour reserve for flagged sweeps. The hard gate before you walk in: two full mocks at 750 or above. One lucky mock is noise; two is a signal. If a mock lands under, trade a rest block for one more drill-and-retake cycle — never trade sleep.

Weight your drilling by the blueprint: Domain 1 carries 31%, Domain 2 26%, Domain 3 20%, Domain 4 12%, and this domain 11% — so a weak FM Integration costs nearly three times what a weak Testing domain does. Marginal hours go where weight × weakness is largest.

The last seven days, scheduled
DaySessionWhy this, now

T-7

Full mock #1 in the Exam Hall — 75 questions, timed

An honest baseline: score, pace, and your two weakest domains

T-6

Domain drill on your weakest domain, weighted by blueprint share

Highest score-per-hour while there is still time to relearn

T-5

Drill the second-weakest; start daily flashcards

Spaced repetition pays within days — start it while days remain

T-4

Pace sprint; reread the traps lesson

Trains the qualifier reflex against the 2.4-minute clock

T-3

Full mock #2 — target 750+ with minutes to spare; review every miss the same day

Confirms the baseline moved; same-day review converts misses into points

T-2

The official practice material on AWS Skill Builder

The truest external read — saved for last so it measures the finished you

T-1

Flashcards only; verify logistics (ID, route or OnVUE system test); stop by early evening

Consolidation happens asleep; cramming tonight costs more than it adds

Exam day

Check in early; qualifiers first; complete every answer set; flag and sweep

Exact-set grading plus free guessing means blanks are the only unforced error

T-minus 7, as one track with one gate

  1. T-7 · Full mock #1

Full length, timed, no pausing. The output is a baseline: score, pace, and the two weakest domains by blueprint weight.

  2. T-6/T-5 · Drill the weak domains

Weight × weakness decides the order — a shaky Domain 1 (31%) outranks a shaky Domain 5 (11%) three to one. Daily flashcards start now.

  3. T-4 · Pace sprint + traps reread

Short timed bursts train the qualifier reflex at 2.4 minutes per item; the traps lesson refreshes what the distractors will try.

  4. T-3 · Full mock #2

Review every miss the same day — classify each as knowledge gap, misread qualifier, or pacing error. They have different cures.

  5. Two mocks at 750+?
  6. One more drill-and-retake cycle

Trade a rest block, never sleep. Re-drill the domain that cost the most points, then retake.

  7. T-2 · Official practice material

Skill Builder's official question set is written by the exam's own program — the best single predictor, spent last so it measures the finished preparation.

  8. T-1 · Logistics, flashcards, stop early

ID matching your registration, route or OnVUE system test on the same machine and network, bag packed — then stop by early evening.

  9. Exam morning

Check in early. Qualifiers first, complete every multiple-response set, flag and sweep with the banked half hour. Blanks are the only unforced error.

Format, price, and clock

$300 USD, 180 minutes, 75 questions (65 scored + 10 unscored, unlabeled). Multiple choice and multiple response only — the stem states how many to select, and grading is exact-set with no partial credit. Pass is 750 on the 100–1,000 scale, compensatory across all five domains.

Testing center or online proctoring?

Both run through Pearson VUE. A center removes environment risk. Online proctoring (OnVUE) demands a quiet private room, cleared desk, one webcam, no second monitor — run the system test on the same computer and network beforehand, and check in about 30 minutes early.

ID and accommodations

Government-issued photo ID with the name matching your registration. Non-native English speakers can request the ESL +30 accommodation (30 extra minutes) — it must be requested before scheduling. On a 180-minute Professional exam, that is pure margin; take it if you qualify.

Inside the exam UI

The Help button carries the reference list of full AWS service names, so invest in knowing what services do. Flag-and-return works; pair it with the banked half hour from 2-minute pacing to sweep every flag before time expires.

If you pass — and if you don't

A pass is valid for three years. A miss comes with a section-level score report: feed it straight back into the drill loop (weight × weakness) and rebook after a 14-day wait. The score report is a study plan wearing bad news.
